Born in Madrid, Cecilia Bercovich is a versatile violin, viola and viola d’amore performer. Maintaining a very varied artistic itinerary, she has performed as concertmaster and section leader with maestri such as Pierre Boulez, Riccardo Chailly, Matthias Pintscher, Heinz Holliger and Krzysztof Penderecki at the Lucerne, Salzburg and Bayreuth Festivals among others. Chamber music and improvisation represent a wide part of her engagements, sharing stage with Maria João Pires, Sabine Meyer, Asier Polo, Lucy Shelton or Cristina Montes. Highly engaged with musical creation nowadays, Cecilia’s concert programs offer a widely creative approach and often include her own transcriptions, commissions and premieres.

A student of Victor Bercovich, Cecilia graduated with Highest Distinction Mark in Musikene on violin and viola, and has been a student of Isaac Stern and Itzhak Perlman. Strongly involved in several youth orchestra projects, she holds a teaching position at the Higher School of Music of Aragon, and at the Katarina Gurska Higher School of Music in Madrid. An active member of both the Meitar (Tel Aviv) and Variances (Paris) ensembles, Cecilia is also an Associate Artist of Quantum (Tenerife). Her recordings of chamber music and solo concerti for violin and viola are available at the Deutsche Grammophon, Naxos and Ibs labels.

This season, Cecilia conducts “El Sobre Verde” at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, is a guest concertmaster of the Navarra Symphony and is a co-curator of the Forward Festival.  This summer’s engagements include Lucerne Festival, Malta International Summer Festival and Les Musicales de Normandie.
