Born in 1978 in Osnabruck, Wolfgang Abendroth studied church music at the Cologne Music Academy, including organ with Prof. Johannes Geffert. He became cantor and organist at St. John’s Church, the major protestant church of Düsseldorf in 2002. There he is the artistic director of the Düsseldorf Chamber Choir and the Düsseldorf Johanneskantorei. Since 2005, he has taught an organ class at the College of Church Music in Herford; from 2013 he teaches organ improvisation at the University of Music and Dance of Cologne. In 2010 he received the Music Prize of the City of Dusseldorf.

He was a guest at several festivals, including the International Organ Week in Nuremberg and Brussels, Moselfestwochen, the Schleswig – Holstein Music – Festival and the chamber music festivals of Oxford, Stift, Osnabrück and Kuhmo/Finland.
