Rafael Rosenfeld grew up in a family of musicians in Lucerne and completed his studies with Walter Grimmer in Zurich and Professor David Geringas in L\u00fcbeck. Winning first prize at the International Music Competition in Geneva in 2000 elevated Rafael Rosenfeld to the upper echelons of Europe’s musical elite.<\/p>\n
At the age of 22, Rafael Rosenfeld became principal cellist of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, where he now holds a part-time position and divides his time between solo, chamber music, and orchestral engagements.<\/p>\n
As a member of the Merel Quartet, he performs regularly in renowned concert halls such as Wigmore Hall in London and the Tonhalle Zurich; the quartet also performs at major international festivals. Since 2005, he has been professor of cello at the Basel University of Music FHNW.<\/p>\n
