David Fonseca-Bibescu, born in Barcelona, began his musical training at the IEA Oriol Martorell, studying with his father, Heriberto Fonseca, and graduating with highest honors and the Prize of Excellence. He later completed his Bachelor\u2019s Degree at the Conservatori Superior de M\u00fasica del Liceu thanks to a scholarship from the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation, studying under Kai Gleusteen and Corrado Bolsi. During his final year, he was entrusted with a Joseph Gagliano violin (1798) for one year by the conservatory and the foundation. He continued his studies at the same
institution with a Master\u2019s Degree in Classical and Contemporary Music Performance, again supported by a scholarship from the conservatory, studying under Corrado Bolsi and graduating with highest marks. He completed further postgraduate studies at the Accademia Musicale Santa Cecilia in Bergamo with Pavel Vernikov, Svetlana Makarova and Igor Volochine, and has also worked with Roberto Vald\u00e9s.<\/p>\n
He has received recognition in national and international competitions. Notable achievements include the 1st Prize at the ARJAU Competition in Barcelona (2012), 1st Prize at the VII Cordes de Barcelona Competition (2015), 1st Prize at the XIV Girona Music Performance Awards (2015), 3rd Prize in the regional phase of the Intercentros Mel\u00f3mano Competition (2015), and 1st Prize at the 5th International \u201cNote sul mare\u201d Competition in Rome, Italy (2016). In this competition he was additionally awarded the First Absolute Prize and the Special Bowed Instruments Prize, obtaining
the maximum score of 100\/100. He also received the BBVA Music Prize \u2013 Individual Talent Award (2016), with a Special Mention and the Special Prize of the Association of Conservatories of Catalonia (ACCat) for the best interpretation of a work by a Catalan composer. He later won the 1st Prize at the V Soloists Competition (2018) of the Jove Orquestra InterComarcal (JOIC), the 1st Prize at the 17th International Music Competition \u201cPremio Citt\u00e0 di Padova\u201d (2019) in Padua (Italy), and the 3rd Prize at the 20th International \u201cVirtuosit\u00e9 Prize\u201d (2023) also in Padua.<\/p>\n
In addition, he has been awarded in several chamber music competitions, including the 1st Prize at the Concerto Competition of the Q4Stage quartet course in Lleida with the Lux Quartet (2016), the 2nd Prize at the I Cambra Rom\u00e0nica International Competition (2019) in Andorra with the Quartet Toldr\u00e0, and the 3rd Prize at the V Rookie Chamber Music Online Competition (2020) with the Quartet B\u00e9cquer. His performance activity includes solo appearances with orchestra and recitals in Spain, Andorra,
Italy, Germany and Portugal. He has performed as a soloist with the National Youth Orchestra of Andorra conducted by Gerard Claret, the Jove Orquestra InterComarcal with Marcel Ortega, the Barcelona Guitar Orchestra at the Palau de la M\u00fasica Catalana, the Blackmore International Music Academy Orchestra in Berlin conducted by Guy Braunstein, the Camerata Pirineus in northern Catalonia and the Douro String Academy Orchestra at the Teatro de Vila Real (Portugal).<\/p>\n
His chamber music collaborations include performances with musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma, Sergey Ostrovsky, Andriy Viytovich and Zvi Plessler. He has recorded for Catalunya M\u00fasica with the Trio Montsalvatge and for Radio Nacional de Espa\u00f1a with the Quartet B\u00e9cquer. In the orchestral field, he has been invited as concertmaster with ensembles such as the Orquestra
Simf\u00f2nica del Vall\u00e8s, the Orquestra Cl\u00e1ssica de Espinho (Portugal), the Camerata Eduard Toldr\u00e0, the Orquesta Filarm\u00f3nica del Mediterr\u00e1neo, the Spanish National Youth Orchestra, the Catalan National Youth Orchestra, and the Andorran National Youth Orchestra. He has been a member of
the Mahler Chamber Orchestra as an academist, has been invited as assistant concertmaster with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (Les Arts), and as assistant principal second violin with the Orquesta Sinf\u00f3nica de Castilla y Le\u00f3n. He has also collaborated with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and with the Orquestra del Gran Teatre del Liceu.
David has received guidance and masterclasses from renowned violinists such as Salvatore Accardo, Oleg Kaskiv, Vilmos Szabadi, Vera Mart\u00ednez, Sergey Ostrovsky, Latica Honda-Rosenberg, Patrice Fontanarosa, Gordan Nikolich, Lukas Hagen, Guy Braunstein and Marco Rizzi, among
others. He has been a guest teacher with the Catalan National Youth Orchestra.<\/p>\n
