Biel Garriga Carretero

Biel Garriga Carretero (2006) began his musical studies at the age of 4 at the Aula de Música Contrapunt in Malgrat de Mar. He later studied with Anna Ferrer until the age of 14, when he became a student of Peter Thiemann, a professor at the Conservatory of Music of the Liceu. He is currently following his studies with Gustav Rivinius, an international soloist and renowned professor, at the Maastricht Conservatory, with a scholarship from the Dutch foundation Miep en Loek Graus Kohl.

Since 2021, he has participated in the international music course organized by AIMS in Solsona. In 2022, he was selected for the soloist competition, which allowed him to perform L. Boccherini’s Concerto no. 3 for cello at the castle of Cardona. In chamber music, he has worked with renowned musicians such as Simone Zgraggen or Shunske Sato. He has also participated in several masterclasses with internationally known cellists such as Hilel Zori or Gary Hoffman. He has performed in several important venues such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Paranimf of the University of Barcelona, at the Schubertíada of Cantabria, the church of Santa Susanna del Mercadal in Girona, and even in France and the Netherlands.

He is part of the Catalan National Youth Orchestra, with which he has played at the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Auditorium of Barcelona. From February 2023 to August 2024, he has played with a cello Laberte (1921) loaned by the Pau Casals Foundation, an instrument that belonged to Pau Casals himself and was his main instrument for several years and with which he even went on concert tours. For this reason, he is also a direct collaborator with the Foundation.
