Klaus-Peter Werani
A defining feature of Klaus-Peter Werani’s biography is the diversity of his musical activities. His orchestral career as a violist took him from Hamburg—where he served as principal viola of the Philharmonic State Orchestra—to Munich, where since 2000 he has been a violist with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (BRSO).
In his work as a soloist and chamber musician—currently especially with TrioCoriolis—contemporary music plays a central role. With the BRSO he has worked with the most prominent conductors and soloists of our time.
In the field of pedagogy he is regularly active with the BRSO Academy, in various educational initiatives, and as a lecturer for youth orchestras. His students now perform in leading ensembles and orchestras internationally.
His recordings have been released on the labels col legno, WERGO, NEOS, ECM, and KAIROS. In addition, Klaus-Peter Werani has curated, together with colleagues and ensembles, several new series for the musical city of Munich (“Hörblicke21”, “DUO2KW – expanding!” and “Kollektivitäten”).
For several years, KP Werani has also devoted himself intensively to composition. In 2021 he received the Music Promotion Prize of the City of Munich for outstanding artistic achievements.
