Jone Kaliunaite was born in Vilnius, Lithuania. At the local art and music grammar school M.K.Ciurlionis, she majored in violin, later viola. After graduation she studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Music under Prof.P.Radzevicius. In 1991 she continued her studies at the Musikhochschule in Lübeck with Prof. Barbara Westphal and graduated with honors in 1998 as part of the concert exam. In addition, she was an associate student at the Mozarteum in Salzburg under Prof. Thomas Riebl.

Jone Kaliunaite is a multiple laureate of national and international competitions (among others at CIEM Genéve 1996). She was 1st solo violist with the Essen Philharmonic and at the Deutsche Operam Rhein in Duisburg. Self-employed as solo violist with the Bamberger Symphoniker, HR-Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt, Oper Frankfurt. From 1999 to 2005 she was a lecturer for viola at the Folkwang-Musikhochschule in Essen. Since 2005 Jone Kaliunaite holds a professorship at the University of Music Saar. From 2012-2016 she was guest professor at the Music Academy in Vilnius / Lithuania.

She performs as a soloist as well as in various chamber music formations. As a sought-after chamber music partner Jone Kaliunaite joined with Vytautas Sondeckis, Alexei Lundin, Vilnius Quartet, Eduard Brunner, Thomas Duis, Maxim Vengerov, Tatevik Mokatsian, Tanja Becker-Bender, Dieter Klöcker, Friedemann Eichhorn, Florian Uhlig, Anke Dill, Stephan Picard, Gustav Rivinius,…

Her intensive concert and teaching activities led her, among others to South Korea, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, Bulgaria, Lithuania and England.
