Born in Nordhorn/Germany, Miriam began her bassoon studies in Würzburg and Mannheim (Germany) with Prof. Eberhard Buschmann and Prof. Alfred Rinderspacher. After graduating with distinction, she completed her studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich under the tuition of Prof. Eberhard Marschall.
Miriam also studied piano as a second main instrument in Mannheim and took her degree in both piano performance and teaching.
As an orchestral musician Miriam trained as a member of the academies of the Radio Symphony Orchestras in Freiburg (SWR) and Munich (BR) and was first appointed Principal Bassoon in the Philharmonic Orchestras in Chemnitz in 2002 and Dortmund in 2010 before joining the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as Section Principal Bassoon in 2012.
She has performed as guest principal with many leading German orchestras including WDR Symphony Orchestra, States Opera Hamburg, Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra of the “Gewandhaus Orchestra” Leipzig and Radio Orchestra “SWR” in Kaiserslautern. She is also an active chamber musician, having created and supervised a series of concerts for multimedia chamber music at the Chemnitz Opera House and performed with various chamber music ensembles including Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra Mannheim and the Soloists of the Radio Orchestra (SWR) Kaiserslautern and additionally appeared as a bassoon soloist and played solo recitals all over Germany.
Her performances have been widely recorded for Radio (SWR, BR, WDR, BBC), TV and CD/DVD productions.
Since 2012 Miriam is Professor of Bassoon and Chamber Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and gives masterclasses and woodwind coaching throughout Europe.
